Programming and Interventions for Algebra 1 Success
Mailing ListAbout the Project
New Visions for Public Schools is excited to launch a project that aims to support schools in replicating a highly successful Algebra I approach developed by Park East HS Algebra 1.
The Algebra 1 Regents exam can be either a gateway or gatekeeper for high school math students. Passing on the first attempt opens up space in students’ schedules and enables them to take higher level mathematics coursework throughout high school. Park East HS has had remarkable success in this area. 100% of 9th grade algebra students sit for the Regents, and about 90% pass on the first attempt. This leads to 90% of students taking math throughout their four years in high school.
New Visions for Public Schools has worked closely with staff from Park East HS to distill the components of their success model into a set of key unique and replicable components. Guidance around recommended programming will be provided at our August 1st information session. Through PLCs, schools who elect to join the project will be provided with support for teaming, data practice and instruction.
“Follow the data, then your instincts.” Lauren Brady, Park East HS Math teacher
