Subject Area Eligibility

In addition to our general criteria for applicants, below you will find more detailed requirements:

English Language Arts Requirements:

  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in social studies to include at least 1 course in U.S. History or U.S. Geography
  • 12 credits in math/science/technology
  • 3 credits in the arts
  • A minimum of 21 credits of advanced courses in British Literature, American Literature or World Literature written in English (no more than 3 credits of the latter)

Special Education Requirements:

  • A major in a liberal arts or science subject
  • 6 credits in English
  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in political science, history, economics or geography with at least one course in history or geography
  • 6 credits in math
  • 6 credits in science
  • 3 credits in the arts

TESOL Requirements:

  • A major in a liberal arts, science major or interdisciplinary concentration of at least 30 credits
  • 12 credits in a foreign language
  • 9 credits in communications and English with at least one course in written analysis and expression and 1 course in English literature
  • 9 credits in science and mathematics, with at least 1 course in math and 1 course in science
  • 6 credits in social studies, to include at least 1 course in history or geography
  • 3 credits in the arts

Biology Requirements:

  • 6 credits in English
  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in social studies, to include at least 1 course in U.S. History or U.S. Geography
  • 3 credits in the arts
  • 1 course in calculus
  • A minimum of 21 credits in Biology, including 1 year of introductory biology with lab
  • 1 semester of organic chemistry

Chemistry Requirements:

  • 6 credits in English
  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in social studies, to include at least 1 course in U.S. History or U.S. Geography
  • 3 credits in the arts
  • A minimum of 29 credits in science and mathematics, including:
  • 1 year of general chemistry with lab
  • 1 year of organic chemistry with lab
  • 1 year of introductory physics with lab
  • 1 semester of calculus

Earth Science Requirements:

  • 6 credits in English
  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in social studies, to include at least 1 course in U.S. History or U.S. Geography
  • 6 credits in math or technology
  • 3 credits in the arts
  • A minimum of 21 credits in geology, physical geography, earth science or environmental science, including geographic techniques
  • A major of at least 30 credits in the liberal arts or sciences

Math Requirements:

  • 6 credits in English
  • 6 credits in a foreign language
  • 6 credits in social studies, to include at least 1 course in U.S. History or U.S. Geography
  • 6 credits in science or technology
  • 3 credits in the arts
  • A minimum of 24 credits in math, including:
  • 1 course in elementary statistics
  • 1 year of calculus
  • 1 course in matrix or linear algebra
  • GPA of at least 2.7 in math courses
