No teacher is an island. UTR believes in a collaborative learning experience. Residents benefit not only from first-hand classroom experience, but from the support of mentor teachers and program staff. You’ll be able to directly apply your coursework to your work with students.

1. A Personal Teaching Mentor:
We believe that teachers learn best when they learn together. You’ll get an onsite, personal, experienced mentor teacher who will work with you in the classroom during your first year, to help you comfortably acclimate to teaching.
2. Deferred Tuition and Residency Award:
We want you to focus on what matters the most: the students. Tuition for UTR, is deferred until your first year as a full time teacher.
3. Job Placement Assistance:
After your residency, we assist you in finding a teaching position in a NYC high-need school for the following school year. 100% of our graduates have been hired in NYC schools.
4. Ongoing Support:
We are dedicated to your success in the classroom. Even after the program, we provide customized support for graduates through classroom visits and coaching sessions, social events, conferences, newsletters, as well as other kinds of resource sharing.
5. Higher Pay:
Following your residency year, you’ll be paid a second-year teacher salary, because of the value of your residency experience
