Could your school’s operational systems benefit from technology and innovation? This course is geared toward all school-based staff members who have a hand in creating or supporting school operations. Past participants have included classroom teachers, school secretaries, assistant principals, principals, and other school-based staff.

This is a project-based course that focuses on how Google Apps for Education (GAFE)—a popular cloud productivity suite used in many schools, universities and modern workplaces—can be used as powerful tools to build more efficient and effective operations systems for your school. In this course, you will learn how Google Apps for Education tools like Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Google Sites, and Google Classroom can be used to transform the way work gets done in schools by improving operations and optimizing workflows. When used effectively, these tools lead to powerful shifts in the way communication and collaboration take place in a school.

Participants who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to create a digital system using at least one “Add on” to support a core schoolwide operation.

Course Expectations:

  • Attend two 4-hour in-person sessions
  • Participate asynchronously in the online course environment
  • Create a digital system to support a key operation at your school to streamline work processes and increase school-wide transparency

Successful completion of this course assumes that teacher leaders, their colleagues, and students will have GAFE accounts and devices for use in the school context. Teacher leaders without Google Apps for Education should obtain permission from their school leader and/or work with technology staff at their school to set up a pilot domain and user accounts for their classroom, team, or grade level. To accomplish the objectives of this course, participants must have regular access to a reliable laptop with sufficient bandwidth to accommodate the use of Google’s browser-based applications.
