Follow the Breadcrumbs: Tracing Student Behaviors to their Source
This course prepares teachers to manage their classroom environments effectively and efficiently. It is designed to support both teachers who are currently struggling with classroom management and teachers who are looking to improve their strategies. Grounded in research by Dr. Ross Green and others on effective methods for interpreting and responding to challenging behaviors, this course emphasizes viewing behavior as a form of communication, recognizing lagging skills and unmet needs, learning how to teach skills and meet needs within the classroom environment, and the importance of building a strong teacher-student relationship in order to avoid classroom problems. Teachers enrolled in this course will develop their own classroom community and engage in reflection about their own practice.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to articulate concrete strategies for building relationships with students, model behaviors for students, use a process for structuring classes to support student engagement, and identify the lagging skills and unmet needs most commonly seen in their classrooms.
Participants who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to develop, deploy, and reflect upon classroom management strategies that support instruction.
