Our highly anticipated course, Google Apps for Classroom Teachers Level II, intended for intermediate Google Apps for Education (GAFE)/G Suite users is now open for registration! This online course builds on the prerequisite Level I course by providing teachers with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of G Suite and apply instructional best practices to create enhanced learning experiences for students.
Moving past technical skills, this class combines technical and pedagogical components. Participants will learn how to leverage digital tools to create differentiated assessments, provide student feedback and analyze student data. The course is led by current NYCDOE teachers who use GAFE/G Suite in their classrooms.
As a result of taking this course, participants will know and be able to do the following:
- Complete a draft digital summative assessment using Google tools
- Analyze sample student data
- Revise a digital summative assessment incorporating peer feedback
Successful enrollment in this course assumes that teachers have completed Google Apps for Classroom Teachers Level I (or its equivalent), and they have GAFE accounts and devices for use with their students in the classroom context. Teachers without GAFE/G Suite accounts should obtain permission from their school leader and/or work with technology staff at their school to set up a pilot domain and student accounts for their school and/or classroom. Class time will not be used to directly support the setup of a GAFE domain, however Google offers free online resources and and phone-support to assist with this process. To accomplish the objectives of this course, participants must have regular access to a computer or tablet, and Internet connectivity with sufficient bandwidth to accommodate the use of Google’s browser-based and/or mobile applications.

- Attend six 1.25 hour synchronous Google Hangout sessions
- Complete asynchronous course components alongside class sessions
- Use the features of Google Sheets to effectively analyze sample student-produced data
- Draft a summative assessment incorporating the digital tools learned in this class and the prerequisite course
- Revise the draft assessment based on peer and instructor feedback
- Participate in regular, rigorous discussions and peer review processes
This class will be taught by
Joshua Schulman has been teaching English for 12 years. He is currently an English teacher, librarian and ELA Department Leader at Cambria Heights Academy, a small high school in Hollis, Queens. As a teacher-leader and a strong advocate for technology in the classroom, Josh has helped facilitate school-wide adoption of Google Apps for Education among his fellow staff members, administrators and students. He holds a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from SUNY Geneseo, an M.A. in Creative Writing from CUNY Queens College, and an MSLIS in Library and Information Science – School Media Studies from Syracuse University.
