G Suite for Teachers II: Data-Driven Instruction Made Easy with Tech

Due to popular demand, this summer we are offering G Suite for Teachers II on two occasions. Scroll down for course dates and to register for one of the two sections.

This course builds “G_Suite for Teachers I: Grounding Tech Tools in Effective Instructional Practice” by providing teachers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of G Suite and synthesize their knowledge of digital tools with instructional best practices. We will focus on incorporating digital tools into real-world assessment creation and revision, lesson planning, formative assessment, feedback, differentiation, and data analysis. Digital tools will be reintroduced as a means by which teachers can use a digital classroom environment to effectively engage their students in learning and assess their work, all while building digital literacy and digital citizenship.

Participants who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to (a) design assessments that elicit formative information for instructional planning, (b) improve analysis of student learning through tech tools and data protocols, and (c) demonstrate the ability to design a technology-rich summative assessment using the SAMR Model that demonstrates competence by learners.


This course assumes that participating teachers can easily use the G Suite core applications (Mail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Classroom) and that they and their students will have GAFE accounts and devices for use in the classroom context. To accomplish the objectives of this course, participants should have regular access to a class set of reliable laptop (or tablet) devices and Internet connectivity with sufficient bandwidth to accommodate the use of Google’s browser-based and/or mobile applications.

Joshua Schulman

Joshua Schulman has been teaching English for 15 years. He is currently a Peer Collaborate Teacher, librarian and ELA Department Leader at Cambria Heights Academy, a small high school in Hollis, Queens. As a teacher-leader and a strong advocate for technology in the classroom, Josh has helped facilitate school-wide adoption of G-Suite applications among his fellow staff members, administrators and students. He holds a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from SUNY Geneseo, an M.A. in Creative Writing from CUNY Queens College, and an MSLIS in Library and Information Science – School Media Studies from Syracuse University.

As this is a foundations course, no familiarity with G-Suite apps is expected.

Participants ability to use G-Suite apps will be assumed. This course will introduce add-ons as a way to increase proficiency and fluency.

Familiarity with G-Suite apps and add-ons is necessary, proficiency and fluency will be assumed, and the tools will be used to support effective data protocols.
